Introduction

Papanyana Development was established in May 1999 with an intention of unleashing the potentials of young men and women living in the Republic of South Africa especially those located in rural areas. In all this time, PD operated as an unregistered Non Profit organization however we were recognized by the Mapela Local Authority and the community at large (Situated in Mokopane, previously known as Potgietersrus)

PD is a 100% Black Empowerment organization. Since its establishment in 1999, has played a pivotal role in facilitating the development of youth around Waterberg District and in replicating quality youth programmes. PD’s primary target group was, out of school, Unemployed young women and men, Disabled and the Overall youth aged between 18 & 35 around Mapela at large. Our experience has taught us that this group are disadvantaged as a result of their socio-economic and educational backgrounds. As a result they are more vulnerable to engage in crime, drug abuse and sexual activities. Have little to no opportunities for economic development either through formal employment, further education and training or self-employment. The young women due to their gender and race were more disadvantaged.

With due to high demand of developmental strategies and high unemployment rate in the Republic of South Africa, PD realised the need to go big with a global and viable approach thereby converting to a Close Cooperation. As a commercial participant we come from the past that was characterized by skewed developmental priorities that where premised mainly on the color of skin or even the age of recipient, a developmental pattern that was structured in a manner that benefited a very small percentage of entire commerce.

As a result of which, the majority of them became rebellious and defiant which resulted in them not getting the necessary education and skills to can sustain their livelihood and therefore many of them resorted to what they considered as a means of survival such as involvement in Crime, Substance Abuse and Prostitution.
